Delivery
SOLS provides free delivery to the main branch of 149 public libraries in Southern Ontario,
including Toronto Public Library, Libraries and
Archives Canada and seven universities:
- Materials ordered through the inter-library loan system
- Materials ordered through reciprocal borrowing arrangements (eg.
PCIN, YPLN)
- Materials left or mistakenly returned to the wrong library
system
- POOL rotations
We also provide fee based delivery service for:
- Inter-branch delivery
- 22 branches of 12 libraries on the delivery system
- New book delivery
- For organizations such as LSC, LBI and Jack the Bookman
- Packages for organizations needing to distribute their material to
libraries
Review of SOLS' Delivery Service
SOLS contracted with KPMG in summer 2009 to investigate
options to relieve cost pressures on the delivery service. An email
providing
context on the study was sent to CEOs on December 15, 2009. The
final report was
submitted on November 16, 2009.
Points of interest about SOLS Delivery service:
- In one year our drivers:
- Travel 898,277 km
- Deliver 487,684 pieces of material (envelopes, books and boxes)
- Make 24,526 stops at libraries
- Use 145,074 litres of fuel
- There are 12 routes driven by 15 full and part time drivers and a
number of casual drivers to cover for holiday relief.
